Lighter than Air!This is truly one of the most amazing mysteries you'll ever encounter. Known for centuries, there has never been an adequate explanation! You'll need a total of 5 people to do this demonstration. If you follow the directions, a person sitting in a chair will become virtually weightless and seem to float on your fingers!

First, have the heaviest person in your group sit in a chair. Use a dining room or folding type chair so the person is sitting relaxed but upright with his or her feet on the floor and their hands in their lap.

Have the other four, the lifters, stand on either side, two on each side. One by each knee and one by each shoulder.

Have each lifter make fists with both hands, then extend their two forefingers, touching them together firmly but gently.

Now, have the two lifters standing by the person's shoulders place their extended forefingers under the seated person's left or right armpit. Have the other two lifters place their forefingers under the seated person's left or right knee. Remember to keep your forefingers lightly together while you do this.

Now, just to show everyone the power of suggestion, have the person to be lifted think "heavy" and imagine himself or herself stuck to the floor.

When four lifters try to lift the person, they will find it impossible. It's like the person seated is stuck to the chair and the floor.

The lifters should now alternate placing their hands, palms down, on top of the seated person's head and together extert a steady force downwards while repeating the words "lighter than air" ten times. The seated person should also think "lighter than air" and imagine himself or herself rising into the air.

After the tenth recitation, the four lifters should quickly take their former positions, placing their extended forefingers under the person's armpits and knees and try to lift the person again.

If these instructions are followed carefully, the person will soar straight up into the air on the forefingers of the lifters.

Will wonders never cease?!
